EV Motor & Controller Repair
Jerking, losing power, stuck in limp mode, a new whine, or not moving at all? Our DIYguru-certified technicians diagnose and repair the whole drivetrain — motor, controller/inverter, position sensors, bearings and regen. For every EV brand, on-site or at workshop.

What we fix
Every EV motor & controller service, in one place
From a jerk on acceleration to a motor that won't turn — every drivetrain diagnosis and repair we offer, for any EV.
Jerking & hesitation
A jerk or surge when you accelerate is rarely the motor itself — usually rotor-position, throttle-sensor or controller logic. We find the real cause.
throttle · position
Power loss & limp mode
The turtle / 'limited performance' light and clamped power. We read why the controller or BMS is de-rating — often a sensor or software fault, not a dead motor.
limp mode · de-rate
Controller / inverter repair
The inverter handles huge currents. Failed IGBTs/MOSFETs, a tired DC-link capacitor or firmware faults cause jerking, no drive or lost regen — repaired at board level.
IGBT · MOSFET · firmware
Motor replacement & rewind
Burnt or shorted windings, water-damaged motors and physical damage — rewind where viable, or a like-for-like motor replacement to OEM spec.
winding · rewind · swap
Hall / position sensor
A PMSM must know exact rotor angle. A faulty resolver or Hall sensor causes rough running, jerking, cut-outs or a complete no-drive — diagnosed and replaced.
resolver · Hall
Bearing & noise
A new or growing whine, hum or grind usually means worn motor bearings or the reduction gearbox. We isolate it before it damages the rotor.
bearing · gearbox
Regen braking faults
Lost one-pedal feel or a regen warning? Because regen runs through the motor and controller, we trace it across the controller, sensors and software.
regen · one-pedal
Overheating & derating
Progressive power loss on long drives or in summer points to motor/controller cooling — low coolant, a weak pump or blocked flow. Found and fixed.
cooling · thermal
No-drive diagnosis
Powers on but won't move in D or R. We check the controller, HV fuse, contactors, position sensor and the wiring between pack, controller and motor.
contactor · HV fuse
Common motor problems we solve
- Jerking, kicking or hesitation when you accelerate
- Sudden power loss or the turtle / limp-mode warning
- Powers on but won't drive in D or R
- A new whine, hum or grinding noise that rises with speed
- Regenerative braking has stopped working
- Loses power progressively on long drives or in summer heat
- Motor or controller running unusually hot
- Reduced top speed or torque that wasn't there before
Our diagnostic process
- 1Fault-code read over CAN (motor, controller, BMS, VCU)
- 2Rotor-position & Hall / resolver sensor signal check
- 3Throttle / accelerator-pedal sensor verification
- 4Motor winding & insulation-resistance test
- 5Bearing, gearbox and cooling-system inspection
- 6Road test + fixed-price repair report

EV motor & controller — frequently asked
My EV jerks or loses power — is the motor dead?
Almost never. Jerking and power loss are usually a rotor-position or throttle sensor, a controller/inverter fault, or the system de-rating on a software or thermal trigger. We diagnose the real cause over CAN before recommending any part — the motor is the last thing we condemn.
What is limp mode / the turtle light, and can you fix it?
It's the controller or BMS deliberately clamping power to protect the hardware after it detects something unsafe. We read the fault, identify whether it's a genuine fault or a sensor/software issue, clear it and fix the root cause.
Do you repair the controller / inverter, or only replace it?
Both. Many controller faults — failed power transistors, a degraded DC-link capacitor, or firmware issues — are repairable at board level, which is far cheaper than a full unit. We replace only when repair isn't viable or safe.
Can you fix a whining or grinding motor?
Yes. A faint PMSM whine is normal, but a new or growing whine, hum or grind usually means worn motor bearings or the reduction gearbox. We pinpoint the source and replace bearings or service the gearbox before it damages the rotor.
Which motor types and brands do you service?
PMSM, BLDC hub and induction motors, single and dual-motor setups, across every brand — Tata, MG, Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, BYD, Ola, Ather, TVS, Bajaj, Hero and more — for 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers and cars.
Is it safe, and do you come to me?
The motor and controller run on high-voltage DC, so we use certified technicians, insulated tools and proper isolation. We work on-site at your home or office, or at our workshop; the site-visit fee is waived when you go ahead with the repair.
