Maintenance and care

Battery care, service intervals, what to check

EV maintenance is simpler and cheaper

No oil changes, no spark plugs, no clutch, no exhaust — EVs have 60-70% fewer moving parts than ICE vehicles. Annual maintenance cost is typically 30-50% lower.

What needs regular attention

  • Tyres — EVs are heavier due to batteries, so tyres wear faster. Check pressure monthly (32-36 PSI for cars). Rotate every 10,000 km
  • Brakes — Regenerative braking means brake pads last 2-3x longer. But calipers can seize from disuse — get them cleaned annually
  • Cabin air filter — Replace every 15,000-20,000 km (same as ICE)
  • Coolant — Liquid-cooled battery packs need coolant replacement every 3-5 years
  • 12V auxiliary battery — Yes, EVs still have a 12V battery for accessories. Replace every 3-4 years
  • Software updates — Keep your vehicle firmware current. OTA updates fix bugs and sometimes improve range
  • Battery care tips

  • Keep state of charge between 20-80% for daily use
  • Only charge to 100% before long trips
  • Avoid fast charging exclusively — mix with slow charging
  • Park in shade when possible (heat degrades batteries faster)
  • Use the manufacturer app to precondition the battery before DC fast charging in winter
