Start with the exact size on the sidewall

Tyres do not wear evenly across the four corners. How to Handle a Puncture When Your EV Has No Spare
Because so many EVs ship without a spare, this deserves its own clear explanation.
What you likely have instead of a spare
- A puncture repair and inflator kit. A small electric inflator that plugs into the car, plus a bottle of liquid sealant. You squeeze the sealant into the tyre through the valve, then run the inflator to pressurise it. The sealant coats the inside and plugs small tread holes, letting you drive gently to a tyre shop.

The limits you must understand
These solutions handle small holes in the tread, the central part of the tyre that touches the road. They do not fix a sidewall cut, a large gash, or a blowout. Sealant is a get-you-home measure, not a permanent repair, and most sealant fixes are good only for a short distance at reduced speed before you must reach a tyre shop. After any sealant use, the tyre should be inspected and a proper repair or replacement done. A puncture in the sidewall always means a new tyre.
A sensible roadside routine
- Get the car safely off the road and switch on the hazard lights.
- Find the cause if you can. A small nail in the tread is a candidate for a kit fix. A sidewall cut is not, and means roadside assistance.
- If it is a small tread puncture, use your sealant-and-inflator kit or string plug as the maker instructs, then drive gently and directly to a tyre shop.
