Best Electric Cars in Canada — by Province (2026)
We curate the best EVs in each of Canada's ten provinces — adjusted for climate (Arctic-prairie cold in MB/SK vs mild coastal BC), provincial electricity rate (Quebec C$0.07 vs PEI C$0.18), and the kind of driving each province sees. 147 EV models are officially sold in Canada, led by Tesla, Ford (F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E), Chevrolet (Equinox/Blazer EV), Hyundai (Ioniq 5/6/9), Kia (EV6/EV9), Rivian, Lucid, Polestar and a strong Detroit/Stellantis Windsor presence.

Federal & provincial EV rebates in 2026 — much smaller than they were
The federal $5,000 iZEV programme ran out of funding in January 2025; a new federal EV Affordability Program (EVAP, up to C$5,000) relaunched in February 2026. Provincial purchase rebates have shrunk sharply — as of mid-2026 only Quebec (C$2,000, Roulez vert ending Dec 2026), Manitoba (C$4,000) and PEI (C$4,000) still run one. BC (paused May 2025), Nova Scotia (ended Apr 2025), Newfoundland (closed Mar 2026), Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick have no provincial purchase rebate.
