Front brake pad replacement

OEM-spec front brake pads installed.

EVs are unusually kind to brake pads — regen braking does most of the slowing. But pads still wear, especially on highway-heavy duty cycles where regen ramps off above certain speeds. Front pads typically need replacement every 35-45,000 km on Indian EVs. We use OEM-spec semi-metallic pads designed for the heavier curb weight of EVs, replace pad-pin lubricant, and inspect the disc surface in the same visit.

What's included

  • OEM-equivalent front pads
  • Caliper clean + lube
  • Rotor surface inspection
  • Brake fluid top-up if needed
  • Post-install bedding-in drive

Why this matters

Worn pads on heavy EVs (especially 4W with battery packs adding 300-400 kg) take noticeably longer to stop. Riding pads to the metal damages the disc — disc replacement is 4-5x the cost of a pad swap.

How it works

  1. 1

Visual inspection (pad thickness, disc lip, caliper movement).

  2. 2

Caliper removal, pad swap, pin re-greasing.

  3. 3

Disc surface check — if scored, we quote a skim separately.

  4. 4

Caliper bleed if pedal feel is mushy.

  5. 5

Road-test on quiet road to bed in new pads.

What to expect

Allow 90 minutes. Don't drive aggressively for the first 200 km — new pads need to bed in. You'll hear minor squeak for the first few stops — normal. Warranty: 6 months or 10,000 km.

What we typically find

From hundreds of inspections — what makes the report.

  • Pad thickness below 3mm (replacement threshold)
  • Disc scoring from grit ingress
  • Caliper pin sticking — common after monsoon
  • Brake fluid darker than spec (recommend flush)

How to prepare

  • Note any squealing, vibration, or pedal sponginess
  • Plan a 200km gentle break-in drive after the visit

Equipment we use

  • OEM-spec semi-metallic pads
  • Calibrated torque wrenches
  • High-temp ceramic pad lubricant
  • Disc-thickness micrometer

Certifications

  • Brake-system trained mechanics
  • 6-month workmanship warranty
