Canadian EV incentives (2026)

The federal iZEV programme paused in January 2025 when funding ran out, and as of May 2026 has not yet been restored. Some provinces still offer purchase rebates — Quebec and BC reduced theirs in 2025 but remain active. The Canadian EV market continues to grow on charging infrastructure and total-cost economics rather than headline rebates.

Federal iZEV rebate — paused. Historically up to C$5,000 for eligible new EVs (cars under C$55k base trim, SUVs/ trucks/vans under C$65k). Status: paused January 2025; check tc.gc.ca for current funding status.
Quebec — Roulez vert. C$4,000 provincial rebate (reduced from C$7,000 in January 2025). Still the most generous mainland province programme; runs through Hydro-Québec.
British Columbia — CleanBC Go Electric. C$2,000 (reduced from C$4,000 in 2024). Income-tested, still active.
Prince Edward Island. C$5,000 — proportionally the most generous EV rebate in Canada. Still active.
Nova Scotia — Electrify. C$3,000 active for new EVs.
Yukon & NWT. C$5,000 each — territorial programmes targeting cold-climate adoption.
Newfoundland & Labrador. C$2,500 active.
Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick. No provincial purchase incentive currently. Ontario discontinued its rebate in 2018 and has not restored it.
Charger install rebate. Federal Natural Resources Canada programmes have offered up to C$5,000 for L2 home charger install through partner programmes — availability varies by year and territory.
GST / HST. Federal sales tax (5% GST + provincial) still applies to EV purchase. No EV-specific sales-tax exemption (unlike Norway).

Provincial programmes change quarterly. Plug'n Drive maintains a current rebate map at plugndrive.ca. Confirm with your provincial transport / revenue ministry before relying on any figure.
