🛠️ Professional Diagnostic Tools
OEM Tool
VDS (Vehicle Diagnostic System)
Full guided fault finding, bi-directional control, topological CAN mapping. Dealer only.
OEM Programming
SIPS (SAIC Integrated Program System)
Module programming, firmware updates, TSB fixes. Online authentication required.
Aftermarket
Autel MaxiSys / Launch X431
BMS reset, steering calibration, EPB release. May lag on latest firmware support.
DIY Tool
ELM327 + Torque Pro / Car Scanner
Basic diagnostics, SoH monitoring, custom PIDs. Requires MG-specific PID files.
⚡ High Voltage Warning - MG EVs operate at 350-400V DC
- Never touch orange-colored HV cables or components
- Always perform LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) before HV work
- Wait minimum 10 minutes for inverter capacitor discharge after MSD removal
- Use CAT III 1000V rated multimeter - perform Live-Dead-Live verification
- Wear Class 0 insulated gloves minimum when working near HV
- Keep MSD plug on your person after removal (Tagout protocol)
🔌 Manual Service Disconnect (MSD) Locations
- MG ZS EV: Under rear bench seat OR center console tunnel - requires carpet flap removal
- MG5: External location on underside of battery pack - requires vehicle lift access
- MG4: Under bonnet (front compartment) OR accessible via underbody panel depending on trim
- Marvel R: Under front center console area
- Comet/Windsor: Access via interior trim near battery location
🔋 12V Battery Reset Procedure (Most Common Fix)
- 1. Turn off vehicle completely - move key fob 5+ meters away
- 2. Open hood and locate 12V battery (front left for most models)
- 3. Disconnect NEGATIVE (-) terminal first, then positive (+)
- 4. Wait 10-15 minutes for all ECU capacitors to fully discharge
- 5. Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (-)
- 6. This resets VCU, BMS communication, and clears many software faults
- 7. For "Vehicle Control System Fault" - this often resolves the issue
⚠️ HV Coolant Specifications - Critical
- Chemistry: OAT (Organic Acid Technology) low-conductivity glycol ONLY
- WARNING: Never use tap water or mix chemistries - increases conductivity
- Risk: Conductive coolant + internal leak = P0AA6 Isolation Fault = vehicle disabled
- Filling: Vacuum filling MANDATORY to prevent airlocks causing IGBT hot spots
- Interval: Replace every 4 years / 96,000 km
